One of the great things about menswear is that while trends like the 70's polyester suit and the 80s punk look come and go, they always seem to move towards a clean and masculine look. The year 2011 has definitely brought a great revival of this classic performance. Both in fashion and in the catalog you see men in flattering styles and natural fabrics. The grunge look of the 90s is out of print, and the neat clean-cut appearance of an earlier era has made a comeback. In this sense, here are three of my favorite trends in menswear, due for fall 2011.
Colored jeans We always have a tendency to refer to jeans as "blue jeans". But colored denim is a great fall trend and a great way to enhance your normal denim look. Now it is accepted that you can wear white jeans even after Labor Day. Simply anchor them to darker parts such as gray or brown shoes and belts and a dark blue sports jacket. Gray jeans are a great look for fall. You can combine them with other cool tones, such as a blue and white striped shirt, camel suede shoes and a blue denim jacket for a nice, soothing look. Or try a yellow gold jeans for something more daring. Keep in mind that this is a light color and the rest of your outfit should be kept in neutral tones like tan or navy blue.
"Mad Men" inspired fashion Since the television show "Mad Men" has become very popular, various apparel companies have introduced tailor-made and body-accented lines inspired by the pre-hippie era of the early 1960s. I am personally looking forward to Banana Republic's men's line inspired by "Mad Men", which will be unveiled this fall. The reason this special line works so well is that it offers an updated twist on the classic retro look. This is the key to looking appropriate, not emulating vintage fashion. The key pieces for the "Mad Men" inspired look are slim-fitting suits, shawl-neck pullovers, narrow-cut pinstripe pants, waistcoats and waistcoats. If you attend a formal event, a classic black silk bow tie is the key, and for everyday wear a beautiful silk tie with tie accessories is attached.
Casual, elegant looks What do I mean by "causally elegant"? Well, it's different from what you think is unfussy. Start with a casual foundation for a casual, elegant look. This could be a pair of relaxed fit chinos and a polo shirt or a silk-screened cotton T-shirt. Then add an item that you usually think is just elegant, like a well-fitting sports jacket. For a more casual, elegant look, try a pair of dark washed jeans and a buttoned shirt with the vest in your three-piece suit. Or black jeans with a plain white T-shirt and a tuxedo jacket. With an interesting accessory such as an antique pocket watch or a beautiful pair of Oxford leather shoes, you can make any leisure outfit more elegant. Celebrities who consistently and successfully create the casual, elegant look are Kanye West, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Pharell Williams. Never wear a blazer or sports jacket with shorts for a casual, elegant look.
